SERVICE PROJECTS I chose to work in the field of education so that my work could be work for the betterment of humankind. I want all that I do to be in service of those around me and to bring happiness to others. In this vane, wherever I am I attempt to work with local communities and organization and bring them my knowledge, time and experience. In Beijing, China, I worked with Blossom Healing Home, an orphanage for children who had severe medical needs. Through consultation, Terry and I remodeled the home environment to be more child centered, created a volunteer handbook and trained over 50 volunteers and staff. This experience was a highlight of my work to date and I hope to continue my work with orphanages wherever I may be. During the summer I organize and direct a weeklong camp for children ages 13 – 14 years old. Camp Lau Ren is located on the banks of the Ottawa River in Deep River, Ontario. I grew up at this camp and it is a joy to work with them to put on an amazing camp for amazing teenagers. |
